Paul, originally known as Saul of Tarsus, was a Jewish Pharisee who initially persecuted the followers of Jesus Christ before encountering the risen Christ on the road to Damascus. After his conversion, he became one of Christianity's greatest missionaries, traveling throughout the Roman world to proclaim the Gospel to both Jews and Gentiles. Paul endured imprisonment, persecution, hardship, and opposition while continuing to preach Christ, and he wrote many of the letters that became part of the New Testament. Through his teachings on faith, grace, salvation, and life in Christ, Paul became one of the most influential figures in the early Christian Church.
