Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon and Robin successfully begin to round up the criminals that plague Gotham City, until a mysterious and sadistic criminal mastermind known only as "The Joker" appears in Gotham, creating a new wave of chaos. Meanwhile Robin deals with the Scarecrow and a new vigilante who names herself as Batgirl. In the Trial of Salvatore Maroni Harvey gets injured on the half of his face.
