Fries was a brilliant cryogenicist and college teacher who worked for GothCorp. His wife, Nora, had Huntingdon's Disease, and Fries put her in suspended animation while he searched for a cure. An accident at GothCorp transformed Fries' body into a cold-blooded form that needs to be kept at absolute zero.
