Jim Gordon is one of the few honest cops in Gotham, and the only one that Batman trusts, having been the officer on scene at the Wayne murder who comforted a young Bruce. As a police lieutenant, Gordon enters into an uneasy alliance with the Batman and district attorney Harvey Dent to bring down Carmine Falcone's untouchable crime ring, and his proficiency in his job led him to being promoted to captain and eventually commissioner.
