Tikal is argubaly the smartest out of all the echidnas. When Robotnik tells the echidnas about Sonic, she is the only one that doesn't believe him. She tell her suspicions to Knuckles, who starts to think Robotnik might not be all that he says he is. She is eventually destroyed by Robotnik, proving that she was right about him.
