After graduation, Kate Rooney leaves Chrysler City, overwhelmed by grief and disillusionment from betrayals. In a train station café, she watches a news report on celebrated superheroes. A woman next to her speculates about this "new era." Kate, feeling tired and heartbroken, boards a train to start anew. The woman, using X-Ray vision, pickpockets someone, hinting at new mischief.
