(First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974 and was created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, and John Romita, Sr.) Frank Castle is a former United States Marine Corps officer whose family was gunned down in a mob hit. The mob went unpunished for the killings of the Castle family, so Frank decided to take matters into his own hands and become the brutal gun-slinging vigilante known as The Punisher. He started out as a Spider-Man villain, as he was manipulated by the Jackal into hunting him down, but he later became occasional allies, but with differing methods. He eventually became popular enough to have his own series.
