(First appeared in Spawn #1 in 1992 and was created by Todd McFarlane). Al Simmons was a United States Marine Corps colonel and Central Intelligence Agency agent who was betrayed and left for dead by his superior Director Jason Wynn and his partner Chapel during a mission. Due to the amount of atrocities Al had committed, he was going to Hell, but he made an agreement with the demon Malebolgia to allow him to live as a Hellspawn so that he may see his wife again. Then, Al was turned into Spawn.
