The third (or fourth) screenplay written for Super Mario Bros. in 1993 took inspiration from the Sci-Fi/Comedy genre of Ghostbusters, the writers wanted to flesh out the characters more and the idea of an alternate dimension where humans evolve from dinosaurs came to fruition.read more
