Mark Stephen Waters (born June 30, 1964) is an American film director and producer. Waters is perhaps best known for directing Just Like Heaven, Freaky Friday, and Mean Girls, and producing 500 Days of Summer. He is the brother of screenwriter Daniel Waters and has been married to actress Dina Spybey since 2000. He is a graduate of the American Film Institute and as of September 2006 has a development deal with Paramount pictures. He directed The Spiderwick Chronicles, filming in Montreal in the fall of 2006. In 2008 he shot "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" in Boston. He has a daughter named Zoe. Waters was one of the 120 invitees to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2006. Brie’s stepfather moves the family for what he calls a new beginning. As a senior, it's not the new beginning she would have hoped for. Brie is targeted by jealous girls at her new school, and the only available seat on her bus is next to Jake, who for some reason, finds her offensive. After a humiliating article of her is posted in the online school journal, a demon she thought she’d overcome resurfaces. Eventually Jake's curiosity about the new girl gets the best of him. Unfortunately, now there is competition: the captain of her cross-country team. Jake’s romantic histories with the girl next door and the school’s queen bee, adds tension when all he wants is to connect with Brie. WIll he be strong enough to help Brie weave sense into her crumbling new reality while overcoming his own tainted past?
