Star Trek Myriad Universes, Seeds of Dissent
Khan victorious! Almost four centuries after conquering their world, genetically enhanced humans dominate a ruthless interstellar empire. But the warship Defiance, under its augmented commander, Princeps Julian Bashir, makes a discovery that could shake the pillars of his proud civilization: an ancient sleeper ship from Earth named the Botany Bay*. Khan Noonien Singh named the SS Botany Bay provided to him by Gary Seven to leave for a habitable world about 100 light years away after the first Australian colony. (TOS episode: "Space Seed"; TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2) Botany Bay was the destination of the First Fleet, a group of convicts and military, who traveled to Australia in the late 18th century to establish a penal colony, but it was not established at Botany Bay due to the lack of fresh water, and the expedition moved north to found Sydney. In ENT: "The Augments" it is referred to in the present tense, therefore implying that it was at this time again a prison colony, but in TOS: "Space Seed" it is referred to in the past tense, so the colony might have been discontinued. However since James Kirk suggested the ship was named after the colony, he was undoubtedly referring to the first penal colony.
