Her remarkable mind and photographic memory make it seem not unlikely for her to become, at 17, a Starfleet acting-Ensign let alone the Captain's Yeoman. Otherwise, she is a normal teenager living and serving aboard a starship. Unlike her predecessor in Wesley Crusher, Leslie does make mistakes and everyone is reasonably firm with her, but Captain Kirk is equally as doting on as she is firm with her. Both Kirk and Macha see Leslie as the childhood friend and kid sister they never had in formative years.
