A character has undergone a transformation. Maybe they've simply grown up and aged, maybe they've got a promotion and new design to go with it, or maybe it's a magical transformation. They're happier this way, this is where their story ends. However, that's not what marketing wants. They're cuter as a kid, their original design was easier to produce as a doll, their pre-magic appearance is more recognizable. Whatever the reason, it's way easier to find merch/promo of them from before the end of the story, solely because it sells better.
