A fight with a new powerful enemy named Infinite puts Sonic & the Freedom Fighters (except for Cream & Big) in a coma, allowing Eggman to expand the Eggman Empire and take over Mobius thanks to an ancient powerful gem called the Phantom Ruby that was buried for centuries. Friends of the Freedom Fighters form a resistance group to take back their home. The Freedom Fighters return from their coma to join the Resistance. A new ally rises up as well.
