Knuckles only came because Eggman took the Master Emerald, which he's using to power his starship. He's learned to be more friendly thanks to his time with the Chaotix on the Isolated Island. Speaking of which, he found them, asking for help to get the Master Emerald back. They join him on a mission to stowaway on the starship that Sonic, Tails, and Uncle Chuck hijack. When Knuckles searches for the Master Emerald on that shuttle, he runs into Sonic and Tails. Sonic asks him if he's Metal Sonic using a hologram like last time. Knuckles hits Sonic, proving he's real. He and the Chaotix are now on Sonic's team. But Knux has a certain struggle. As he continues to guard the Master Emerald, he wonders "What was the monster that killed most of my tribe?"
