The last time Amy saw Sonic, she found a loving family after she left Little Planet. When she saw Sonic again, they both froze in shock and awe. Amy had not known that Vanilla's friend was Sonic's uncle, and Sonic had not recognized Amy at first glance, but once he looked at her for a couple seconds, he knew it was her. She even tightly hugged Sonic for saving her from Metal Sonic on Little Planet, and giving her a home and loving family after her parents died. Amy is loyal to a fault, even at the extent of going off-planet, just for Sonic. Knowing Eggman was back, she needed something to defend herself. So, Tails and Rotor gave her a prototype hammer.
