During the invasion of Space Colony ARK by G.U.N, Maria was shot and killed by one of the soldiers in front of Shadow's stunned gaze as she tried to get him to safety and avoid being killed. With his dying breath he made his friend promise to protect Earth and sent him there via an escape pod.
