Sonic the Hedgehog finds out that his best friend Miles "Tails" Prower has been killed by an terrifying evil monster. Soon afterwards he gets sent a package in the mail the includes a letter and a disc that contains a game labeled "SONIC.EXE". Sonic decides to play the game, he plays as Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik and one by one the get killed by an evil version of himself. After finishing the game he soon realizes that the evil version of himself from the game had come into his world and killed Tails and is now after him.
