There is a ban in Georgia, which is used by two stranded guys, Big and Little Enos, to hire a driver called the Bandit to transport a load of 400 cartons of beer from Texas to Georgia within 28 hours. However, there must be two for this job, so the Bandit will take the help of his friend Cledus and his truck. Cledus drives a truck and the Bandit "clears" his way from the cops in a black Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. However, the return journey is complicated by Carrie, a young woman in a wedding dress who escaped directly from the wedding ceremony because she refused to marry Junior, son of local inflatable Sheriff Buford T.
