Nine, in truth, is actually the heir to a magical kingdom in Skylands, with their birth father being the land's beloved king. However, when they were still very young, their uncle staged a coup to steal the crown, resulting in a war that lead to their father's death and their uncle plunging the land into tyranny and disrepair. The effects of this took quite the toll on the soul of Nine's father, who turned into a vengeful beast that haunts the land—but when his own child steps in to save the land, maybe his soul can finally be laid to rest.
