Derfla was never blood thirsty and driven by the desire of destruction, he was a shy dragon pup scared of the world around him. When he was defeated by Alfred, he begged in tears to spare him and said that he was scared. Alfred saw himself in Derfla, to the point that he carried him to his arms and gave him at Aurora, asking her to raise him with love.
