Description of Violet Sheilds:

Age: 21 (in 1917), 23 (in 1919) Height: 5’10 Love interests: William Sheilds, Birdie Lewis. Violet is sharp and pays close attention to detail. She longs to do art as a full time job, but at the moment is working in a haberdashery and also worked in munitions during the war. She has always had a hard time explaining her feelings both to herself and others. She is an only child from a well off, but not first class family. So far in her life, William has been her best and only friend. As the story goes on, she learns to open up to others and accept herself. She is the main voice of the story and the titular character of “the Violet memoir.”
