The final result of ''Project Shadow'', Shadow The Hedgehog was artificially created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, who used the DNA of Black Doom to do so. The purpose behind his creation was so Gerald could potentially develop a cure for many incurable illnesses, and more specifically, for his granddaughter Maria, whom Shadow formed a close bond with. However, after the ARK was shut down and Maria was killed by G.U.N, Shadow was cryogenically frozen for over 50 years, until Ivo Robotnik finally reawakened him to put him to good use.
