The Planet Mars is separated into two races: The White and Green Martians. Both hold high prejudices against each other. J’onn J’onzz lives a peaceful life with his family on the planet Mars. His sinister brother Ma’alefa’ak accesses the Phantom Zone, a prison established by the Guardians of the Universe, unleashing Fernus and his army of Burning Martians. At the beginning of life on Mars, Martians were very savage and were surrounded by fire. Fearing the beasts would enslave neighboring galaxies, the Guardians intervened, locking them away, and making their ancestors vulnerable to fire. The Burning Martians destroy Mars, and J’onn watches his entire family burn, barely escaping and entering a coma in deep space. In a post-credits scene, an ARGUS spaceship finds J’onn’s frozen body.
