Carl Murtaugh himself is a bit lost in thought. He became a psychiatrist because, himself, regrets that we are not helped younger. He likes to listen to the stories of his patients (whom he considers more like his friends). It does him good to help people and to discuss with them to say to himself that there is worse than him in life. The Customer, on the other hand, is a joker.
