In the distant future, there is a world without hunger. Without poverty, war, and disease. Humanity has conquered all of these things, even death itself. The only way through which death can be carried out now is by the hand of a group of monks known as ''Scythes'', who are tasked with ending human life here or there so the planet does not overpopulate. Citra Terranova (Jenna Ortega) and Rowan Damisch (Timothee Chalamet) are two teenagers who are selected to be the twin Apprentices of Scythe Michael Faraday (Pierce Brosnan). Despite wanting nothing to do with the vocation, they must learn the art of ending human life and the necessity of it. But only one of them shall become a full-fledged Scythe...
