The son of James and Catherine Blackwood was born with severe birth defects and was declared dead at birth in August 1961. James initially blamed a curse for his son's deformities, but it was later revealed that Catherine had taken thalidomide during her pregnancy to treat intestinal disorders and nausea. Thalidomide was known to cause serious birth defects in newborns, leading to the drug being discontinued. While this could explain the son's physical deformities, it does not address his dangerous behavior.
