Synopsis

A retelling of the legend of Mulan but set in Late Imperial Rome, during the barbarian invasions. In this series, Antonia runs away from her abusive relatives who are forcing her to marry a nobleman. Disguised as a boy, she unintentionally joins an assembling Roman army setting out to save the declining Western Empire from the German invaders, with aid from the treacherous Huns.

Description of Empress Helena:

The caring yet domineering mother of Valerius, Saturninus, and Valeria, sister of General Felix, and the widowed wife of the late Emperor Aquila. Following her husband's death, she struggles to rule as regent of the Western Empire but she is constantly marred by problems concerning her family and her younger son's advisors. She strongly distrusts Giselric as she believes he will dethrone her younger son.
