Synopsis

A retelling of the legend of Mulan but set in Late Imperial Rome, during the barbarian invasions. In this series, Antonia runs away from her abusive relatives who are forcing her to marry a nobleman. Disguised as a boy, she unintentionally joins an assembling Roman army setting out to save the declining Western Empire from the German invaders, with aid from the treacherous Huns.

Description of Emperor Aquila:

The last Emperor of a unified Roman Empire, and father to Saturninus, Valeria and Valerius. In flashbacks, he reunited the Roman Empire that was ravaged by civil wars and barbarian invasions. Being a devout adherent of the Nicene creed, he was responsible for making Christianity legal, and ordering the purge of the old Roman and Christianity's heretic sects. His rule over a unified Roman Empire lasted for only three years, as he died of mysterious causes. Upon his death, he divided the Empire between his sons and named his general and friend Giselric the protector of the divided Roman Empire.
