Synopsis

Set in the year 2170, we follow the adventures of Akira Fukuhara, a.k.a Ryuko. Protecting the streets with the “Chitsujo no ken”, an indestructible mystical katana that can slice through literally anything. While investigating a new series of murders, all clues lead Ryuko to the killer, her long-lost sister Fujiko, who is now operating as a serial killer called Shinigami. Akira and Fujiko haven't seen each other in 4 years, not since Akira ran away when she discovered their family's horrible secret. Their father was a Yakuza crime lord who had been training his daughters to become his perfect assassins, who would operate using the family swords, the "“Chitsujo no ken” and the "Konton no ken". Confronting her father on this horrible secret, this led to a fight between the two ending with her father falling out of the top floor of the Fukuhara Tower. Fujiko was heartbroken, and has gone completely insane due to losing both of the most important people in her life, and devolved into a death-obsessed schizophrenic serial killer called Shinigami. Over the moon with her sister back, Fujiko now wants to join Ryuko in her crime-fighting.

Description of Akira Fukuhara (Ryuko):

Akira Fukuhara is probably one of the kindest and friendliest people you will ever meet. She is compassionate and caring yet also not afraid to hit someone if they go too far. She is also very selfless and heroic, always putting others before herself and is willing to die if it means saving a life. Also, Akira is super funny, prone to one-liners and sassy comments during fights. She also doesn't take everything seriously and won't follow the rules if they don't make sense.
