Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an French-born British actress and activist. She has gained recognition for her roles in both blockbusters and independent films, as well as her women's rights work. Watson has been ranked among the world's highest-paid actresses by Forbes and Vanity Fair, and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2015. Watson attended the Dragon School and trained in acting at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. As a child, she rose to stardom after landing her first professional acting role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, having acted only in school plays previously. Watson also starred in the 2007 television adaptation of the novel Ballet Shoes and lent her voice to The Tale of Despereaux (2008). River is a 2026 American action thriller film written and directed by Joe Carnahan from a story by Zack Snyder. Produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by Lionsgate Films, it is the first installment in the Chronicles of River Harris franchise. The film stars Cara Delevingne as the eponymous character alongside Saoirse Ronan, Michael Shannon, Emma Watson, Kelsey Grammer, Terry Crews, Zac Efron, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, River Harris goes on a violent rampage to avenge her older brother's death, which leads to her protecting a girl around her age in order to compose herself. River premiered at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 29th, 2026; it received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences for its action, storyline, and Delevingne, Ronan, Watson, and Jackson's performances. A massive sleeper hit, the film grossed $614 million at the global box-office, making it the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2026 and the highest-grossing film of Carnahan's directorial efforts. A sequel is in development with many cast members, including Delevingne and Ronan, set to return.
