Eventually, Arthur, in a confused state as the Dweller in the Depths, would come to Joseph and leading him to become Aquaman, but lack of appreciation leading Atlantis and being Aquaman led Joseph to retire, until Atlan, Arthur's ancestor, found Joseph and helped him awaken powers connected to magic, leading him to take up his new moniker, in honor of Garth, dubbing himself "Tempest".
