Fan Casting Shadow Thief in Return to the DC Universe

A skilled saboteur thanks to learning Ninjutsu while growing up in Japan, Carl Sands was hired by Thanagarian criminal Byth Rok to try to steal Thanagarian technology on Earth, leading Sands to encounter Hawkman and Hawkgirl. To aid him, Rok gave Sands a device called the Dimensionator, allowing Sands to become a living shadow, thus dubbing himself the Shadow Thief. Over the years, Sands has been very formidable, having been responsible for killing Ronnie Raymond's Firestorm, and thanks to Starbreaker, awakening his latent powers over shadows without the need of the Dimensionator.
