Tricked by eccentric scientist Dr. Dayzl and his team to be involved in an upper atmosphere ballooning "accident, where he was exposed to a genetic bomb that gave him the power to manipulate light, Langford "Happy" Terrill became the light manipulating hero, the Ray, whose powers passed onto his sons. Though he had a rocky road with his second son, Ray, he would go out of his way to aid him, drinking from the same fountain that made Tom Corbett Neon the Unknown, with Happy's powers enhanced and now, he is simply "Neon".
