A skilled sailor, Captain Horatio Strong ended up discovering a unique kind of seaweed he called "Sauncha". When he consumed it, it gave him incredible strength and flight, which he used to help others, even working with Superman. However, due to the alien spores in Sauncha, it had an adverse effect on Captain Strong, causing him to have hallucinations. After kicking the Sauncha, Captain Strong continued his sailing career, though exposure to the Sauncha has triggered his metagene, giving him his powers without needing to have the addiction to it
