Fan Casting Azrael in Return to the DC Universe

A former GCPD officer and Marine Corps soldier who suffered many tragedies, Michael Lane was chosen for a joint GCPD military experiment led by Dr. Simon Hurt, to take Batman's place if he ever fell in battle. However, driven insane from it for a time, he would be met by the Order of Purity after his involvement with aiding Hurt in "killing" Bruce Wayne, be given the Suit of Sorrows as well as the Sword of Sin and the Sword of Salvation. Now, he takes the name Azrael, seeking to save his soul after being used by others.
