Bruce has become an alcoholic, Jim Gordon is on the verge of quitting and Dick remains the only support system for her. She's been living a life of misery and can't cope. However, after a run in with a skilled martial artist named Cassandra Cain, Dick convinces Barbara that they have to train her instead of leading the life of a ruthless killer and assassin, to become the new Batgirl... and Barbara to become something better.
