Nikolai Ginovaef codenamed "Silver Wolf", is a Soviet Army veteran who served in the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service as a Sergeant, as well as a Monitor. He and the U.S.S. commando, HUNK were considered to be "rivals". During the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, Ginovaef had orders to eliminate zombies and evacuate civilians. However, he had a number of other missions to attend to. Each successful mission and the additional recovery of data was to give him larger monetary rewards. Overcome by his own greed, Nicholai agreed to an offer by a rival company to conduct his operations in a manner that would weaken the U.B.C.S. fighting strength and eliminate his own comrades.
