Celeste is the biological daughter of Jennifer Richardine Felton (living as Richard Felton at the time), and Stefanno Ashmann, who raped Felton out of jealousy for stealing Arianna from him. Felton was taking large doses of Phenoxyl during the pregnancy, which resulted in Celeste being born with an extraordinary gift allowing her to "bond" with the disease and control the Acherontia moths without any painful side effects. To conceal her true identity and protect her from the malicious intentions of Wyman and Ashmann, the Feltons lied about giving the girl up for adoption when they secretly kept her to raise her themselves as their adopted daughter.
