Brakk fought alongside Saint during the Severance War. Where Saint was a ghost in the trees, Brakk was a hammer on the gates, leading assaults, liberating camps, burning outposts. After the war, Brakk didn’t lay down arms. He uses the rising violence of Ravari gangs like the Brass Thorn Pact as evidence that “the war never ended; it just changed uniforms.” He believes the Ravari will never truly share Canaan. To him, Saint’s restraint is betrayal, and Vera is a symbol of the enemy’s next move. Brakk urges Saint to rejoin the fight, reminding him that forgetting the past is what gets you conquered again.
