Ariel Moore is a fictional character and the lead female protagonist of the 1984 musical drama Footloose and its 2011 remake. She is the romantic interest and later significant other of Ren McCormack, the lead male protagonist. A native to the small backwater and semirural town of Bomont, Utah (Georgia in the '11 remake) where dancing and rock music is against the law and a crime, Ariel strives to escape the oppression of her hometown by rebelling against everything that the town's youth is denied in the simple pleasures of life (i.e., dancing).
