Synopsis

A photographer in a wheelchair spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window, and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend.

Description of Detective Lt. Thomas J. Doyle:

Doyle is a no-nonsense, tough-as-nails detective who is assigned to investigate the disappearance of Lars Thorwald's wife. He initially dismisses L.B. Jefferies' suspicions about Thorwald, but eventually becomes convinced that Jefferies is on to something. Despite their initial clashes, Doyle and Jefferies develop a mutual respect for each other by the end of the film. Doyle is depicted as a competent and dedicated police officer who is committed to solving the case, even if it means going against the opinions of his colleagues.
