Karen is a member of Johto's elite 4, being a dark type specialist being the highest of the 4. Karen was one of the members of the original Johto Squad with Lance, Bruno, Koga, and Will sent on a quest by Ho-oh that they never finished. Karen quiting the squad and the quest saying "Finishing this, was a waste of time" after helping finish the war between Kanto and Johto. After the war, the indigo league was made, and Karen was asked to be a part of the elite 4 only joining because she believes that no pokemon are weak or strong and also because she was bored.
