Elspeth is not just an ordinary maiden; she harbors a powerful spirit known as the Nightmare within her mind. This ancient entity protects her but also poses a significant threat as it begins to take control of her thoughts and actions. When Elspeth encounters a mysterious highwayman, who turns out to be the King’s nephew and a fugitive, her life takes a dramatic turn. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to gather twelve Providence Cards, which are essential to curing the kingdom of the dark magic that infects it. As they face various challenges, their attraction grows, complicating their mission further. The story explores themes of trust, power, and the struggle between light and darkness within oneself
