Richard Rider, a teenager who was chosen by alien Rhomann Dey, the last survivor of the New Troop of Xandar, to inherit his powers and succeed him. However, the transfer procedure did not work and Rider ended up hospitalized and was in a coma for some time. After leaving the hospital, Rider received a telepathic message from Rhomann Dey in which he explained to the young man the powers he gained: from now on, he had superhuman strength, invulnerability to many things, the ability to fly and a uniform with system life support. The young man was still discovering his new powers when he had to face the threat of Zorr, the alien who decimated the New Troop in Xandar. Rider still needed Dey's help to defeat the villain, which also cost his mentor his life.
