Synopsis

In 1868, the final year of the Bakumatsu Period, the warriors of the Shinsengumi are back into action, as the true enemy shows themselves from the shadows. The Kiheitai, a group of jouishishi extremists who wanted to overthrow the Bakufu and destroy the rotten world. Takasugi Shinsaku, the leader of the Kiheitai, who was revealed to be none other than an old comrade of Gintoki from the past. He is actually not a human, but he's not a demon either. He is something else that the Shinsengumi has never faced before. The Shinsengumi, with Chidori at their side, took part in the Boshin War to decide the future of the Tokugawa Shogunate against the rise of the Imperial Nationalism and the extremist group led by Takasugi.

Description of Utsuro/Takasugi Shinsaku/Miyahira Katashi (Kiheitai Leader/Main Antagonist):

His true name is revealed to be Utsuro and he only stole the identity of Takasugi Shinsaku and erased the latter from existence. He has lived hundreds of years, known with many different names and reincarnated several times after he died by killing himself. He is reborn in the Edo period by reincarnating inside Takasugi Shinsaku and manifesting his soul onto the latter's body. He is the founder of the Naraku and become more stronger during the Edo period after a cult that worships him kidnaps Takasugi's and implanted Utsuro's blood along with an artificial heart made from Yamata no Orochi's remains onto Takasugi's body in order to awaken the dormant Utsuro.
