Twilight Sparkle's baby dragon friend, Spike longs to know the history of his past and where he came from. After an argument he has with Twilight, a storm separates him from his pony friends and he is discovered by two griffons, Pauly and Pixy, who offer to help him find his heritage. Twilight and her friends meanwhile set out to find Spike. On their journey, they come across all sorts of new characters, including a group of wisecracking bats called The Night Watchers, the villainous Elephant Lord Tuskin and an absent minded dragon named Norbert.
