On this day in 1955, the television series Sam & Friends debuted in Washington, D.C. Created by Jim and Jane Henson, the series featured a character named Kermit, performed by Jim. A few years later, he became Kermit the Frog. Seven decades later, Kermit the Frog is an international icon, a movie star, and a household name.
