When Shang Tsung and Lex Luthor both create portals to bridge alternate universes, the Justice League and the defenders of Earthrealm attempt to destroy them. However, when both portals are damaged at the exact same moment, the two universes become intertwined and powerful relics are scattered across the new landscape.
