After Bi-Han’s death at the hands of Scorpion, Kuai Liang takes up the mantle Sub Zero. Stakes gets raised when he now has to face the Cyber Initiative, which includes Sektor and some former allies like Cyrax and Smoke. During which, Kuai Liang forms an uneasy alliance with Scorpion, also crossed paths with Sareena who was also haunted by Bi-Han, who is now a wraith named Noob Saibot.
